Volunteer work

Learn about the diverse and dedicated work of our volunteers. Discover how they use their expertise, time, and personal motivation to shape the work of the SÄV, help shape important decisions, and ensure that our tasks are carried out in a transparent, collaborative, and forward-looking manner. At the same time, they bring diverse perspectives that enrich our organization and enable further development. Their dedication builds trust, strengthens communication with our members, and forms the foundation for a vibrant and accountable self-governance.

The volunteer bodies of the Saxon Medical Pension Fund are supported by a professional, full-time administration. It handles day-to-day operations, ensures efficient organizational management, and is responsible for asset management. In doing so, it always acts in accordance with the guidelines of the Administrative Committee and within the framework of the applicable bylaws. This ensures that volunteer work is optimally supported and that the tasks of the SÄV are fulfilled reliably and transparently.

The Extended Chamber Assembly

The Extended Chamber Assembly consists of a total of 113 elected representatives. These include members of both the State Medical Association and the State Veterinary Association. The Assembly serves to represent professional interests and help shape professional matters at the state level.

Once a year, all elected representatives convene for an in-person meeting to discuss current issues, make decisions, and help determine the strategic direction of the medical and veterinary associations. The Extended Assembly thus serves as a central forum for exchange between the various professional groups and ensures that important decisions are made in close consultation with all members.

  • Adoption of the Bylaws and Amendments Thereto
  • Election and removal of the medical and veterinary members of the Supervisory Committee and the Administrative Committee
  • Resolutions regarding the appointment of expert members of the Administrative Committee
  • Resolutions regarding the appointment of the Executive Board
  • Acceptance and approval of the annual financial statements
  • Discharge of the Supervisory Committee and the Administrative Committee
  • Resolutions regarding changes to contributions and pension benefits, the annual determination of the pension assessment basis, and the adjustment of current pension benefits
  • Resolution on the dissolution of the Saxon Medical Pension Fund and the necessary measures
  • Resolution regarding expense reimbursements for members of the Supervisory and Administrative Committees

The Supervisory Board

Seven members of the State Medical Association and two members of the State Veterinary Association are appointed to the SÄV Supervisory Board. Terms of office last five years, and the board meets four times a year, either online or in person.

Representatives of the supervisory authorities are invited to the meetings of the Supervisory Committee. Insurance supervision for the Saxon Medical Pension Fund is the responsibility of the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy, and Climate Protection. The Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, and Social Cohesion is responsible for legal supervision.

The Administrative Committee

The Administrative Committee is the executive body of the Saxon Medical Pension Fund. It consists of the President of the State Medical Association, or a Vice President if the President is unable to attend, four additional members of the State Medical Association, one member of the State Veterinary Association, and three expert members. Committee members are elected for a term of five years. The Administrative Committee meets eight times a year, either online or in person. In addition, members of the Administrative Committee serve on the SÄV’s investment committees.

  • Conducting day-to-day business
  • Implementation of the decisions of the EKV and the Supervisory Committee
  • Preparation of the actuarial business plan and the financial plan
  • Deciding on the allocation to and use of the security reserve
  • Preparation of annual financial statements and a management report
  • Making decisions regarding the hiring and termination of employees

The Work of the Saxon Medical Pension Fund

The SÄV is a member of the Association of Professional Pension Schemes (ABV). This is the umbrella organization for the mandatory pension funds under public law serving members of the regulated liberal professions. In this capacity, the ABV provides a platform for the exchange of information and experiences among the pension funds. It also represents their interests vis-à-vis policymakers and other pension providers. To coordinate the specific interests of the professions, the SÄV is a member of the Standing Conference on “Medical Pension Funds and Welfare” of the German Medical Association and the “Standing Conference of Pension Funds for Veterinarians.”
