Exempt from contributions due to maternity leave and parental leave
During maternity leave and parental leave, membership in the pension fund is contribution-free while insurance coverage remains in effect, provided that no medical or veterinary practice is conducted during this period. For members in private practice, contribution-free status during parental leave can only be granted under certain conditions. The SÄV service team is available to answer any questions you may have.
The maternity leave period is exempt from contributions. Parental leave is exempt from contributions as long as no income is earned from self-employment. To qualify, you must submit documentation from the Saxony Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVS) or from a tax advisor. Exempt parental leave is available until the child turns 3 years old at the latest.
Important: Periods during which no contributions were made do NOT affect the amount of your future retirement pension. You may make voluntary additional payments to increase your pension entitlement, and you may also claim credit for periods spent raising children with the German Federal Pension Insurance (DRV).
Have periods spent raising children recognized by the DRV
Even members who are required to join a professional pension fund such as the SÄV can apply to the German Pension Insurance (DRV) for recognition of child-rearing periods and thereby also accrue pension entitlements there. Information on this is available from the DRV.
Note: Certified copies of the birth certificates of the children born and raised should be enclosed with the application for the registration of child-rearing periods.
