Information for beneficiaries with public health insurance

If the additional contribution to statutory health insurance, which varies by insurance fund, increases on 1 January 2026, higher health insurance contributions will have to be paid. This applies to pensioners who are compulsorily insured under the statutory health insurance scheme.

However, the increase in the supplementary contribution will not affect benefit recipients until two months later. From March 2026, retirement pensions and survivors’ benefits will therefore be lower, as the Saxon Medical Pension Fund will then be obliged to pay the higher contributions directly to the health insurance fund. The amount will be reported by the health insurance fund to the pension fund.

There will be no change to benefits for January and February 2026. This is due to statutory requirements that apply equally to beneficiaries in the event of both increases and reductions.

Those affected will be informed of the change via a notice regarding the amended contribution payments. You will receive this at the beginning of March.
